Before coming to Syracuse University, Professor Jonassaint taught at Duke University and the Université du Québec à Montréal. He also lectured in European and American Universities like Freie Universität Berlin, Southampton University (UK), Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Carleton University, York University (Canada), Dartmouth College, Florida International University, Georgetown and Northwestern. He has published four books: La Déchirure du (corps)texte et autres brèches, 1984; Le Pouvoir des mots, les maux du pouvoir: des romanciers hatiens de l’exil, 1986; Des romans de tradition haïtienne: sur un récit tragique, 2002; De Jonassaint, avec amour, 2004 as well as many articles and special issues on Francophone literatures. His current research interests include Francophone novels and cinemas, literatures of the Caribbean, history and sociology of literature, literary theory and epistemology, postnational literature and transnational writers. Currrently he is teaching a class on translation and a seminar on Francophe Studies from the 19th century to present time, and he is an associate editor for book reviews of Nouvelles Études Francophones published by the Conseil International d’Études Francophones. |
