Linguistics

Syracuse University offers two courses in linguistics at the freshman/sophomore level: LIN 201 (The Nature and Study of Language) and LIN 215 (Languages of the World). This site provides general information concerning the place of LIN 201 and LIN/ANT 215 in the undergraduate program in the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse and course syllabi, assignments, reading questions, and question sets for videotapes for the current offering of each course. In addition, the link labeled "Resources" allows access to a variety of websites on the Internet having to do with languages and linguistics.

LIN 201 and LIN/ANT 215 are both included on the Basic and General Lists of courses that fulfill requirements for courses under the Humanities Division within the Divisional Perspectives section of the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum. In addition, the course sequence LIN 210-LIN/ANT 215 fulfills the sequence requirement in the Humanities Division.

LIN 201 is offered every Fall semester on Main Campus and every Spring through University College; LIN/ANT 215 is offered every spring on Main Campus only.
